Fractional Leadership

Steady leadership for moments of transition.

A leadership change, a strategic crossroads, or a potential merger can leave an organization vulnerable just when it needs clarity most. We step in as interim or part-time leaders to keep the work moving, support staff and board, and make sure the organization’s next chapter is shaped by the community it serves.

When to bring in a fractional leader

  • During a leadership transition, to keep operations, programs, and relationships steady while the board plans what’s next.
  • At a strategic crossroads, when an organization needs to rethink its programs, funding, or partnerships.
  • Before a merger or partnership, to prepare people, programs, and community relationships for a successful handoff.
  • When capacity is stretched, to lead a major initiative without adding a full-time executive.

What we bring

  • Day-to-day leadership of staff, programs, and operations
  • Board partnership, including governance support and clear communication
  • Community listening and strategy, so decisions reflect the people the organization serves
  • Partnership and transition planning that protects what makes the organization valuable

Recent work

  • Interim managing director, 826 New Orleans (2026): leadership through a transition, a community listening process to shape the organization’s future, and preparation for a future partner. Merger preparation.

Why our approach is different

Emmy brings more than 20 years of leadership experience as a nonprofit executive director, child care director, school administrator, and state strategist who managed a $20 million portfolio. But what sets our fractional leadership apart is that we don’t just manage the transition. We use it as a moment to listen, so the organization comes out stronger and more connected to its community.
